Cookie Policy
Last updated: May 1, 2026
This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, which ones we use, and how you can control them. For more on how we handle personal data, see our Privacy Policy.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device when you visit a website. They are used to make websites work, to make them work more efficiently, and to provide information to the owners of the site.
2. Cookies we use
| Category | Purpose | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | Required for the site to work: signing in, the shopping cart, remembering your cookie choice. | PHPSESSID, StrayDogSmokehouse_cart, StrayDogSmokehouse_cookie_ok |
| Analytics | Helps us understand which recipes are read most so we can publish more like them. | Google Analytics (_ga, _gid), Microsoft Clarity (_clck, _clsk) |
| Advertising | Helps us measure ads on Microsoft Advertising and Meta and serve more relevant ones. | Microsoft UET (_uetsid, _uetvid), Meta Pixel (_fbp) |
3. Microsoft Advertising UET cookies
We use Microsofts UET tag to measure ad conversions and to display ads on Microsoft Advertising (Bing). UET sets two cookies on your device: _uetsid (session-scoped) and _uetvid (persistent, up to 13 months). These cookies record information about your interactions with our site, which we use to attribute ad conversions and to retarget visitors.
4. How to opt out by category
- Essential cookies: Cannot be turned off without breaking the site. You can disable cookies entirely in your browser settings, but the cart and your account will not work.
- Analytics cookies: Opt out of Google Analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
- Advertising cookies: Opt out of personalized Microsoft Advertising at account.microsoft.com/privacy. Opt out of Meta Pixel-based advertising in your Meta account ad preferences. Opt out across many advertisers at optout.aboutads.info.
5. Browser-level controls
Most browsers let you block all cookies or only third-party cookies, and most include a Clear browsing data option to remove cookies that are already on your device. Search "manage cookies" plus the name of your browser for current instructions.
6. Do not track
Our site does not currently respond to "Do Not Track" signals because there is no industry standard for how to interpret them. We provide the controls described above instead.
7. Updates
We will update this policy when we add, remove, or change cookies. The "Last updated" date above will change with each revision.
